Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
The phenomenal organization, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Ethel Hedgeman Lyle conceived the dream of the oldest Greek-letter organization established in American by women of color. The sorority was incorporated as a perpetual body on January 29, 1913, and became the channel through which selected college-trained women improved the socioeconomic conditions in their city, state, nation, and the world.
Consistently throughout the years, the emphasis of Alpha Kappa Alpha has been on standards of scholarship, leadership, and exemplary service. 107 years since its founding, the sorority has an international membership of over 300,000 women in 1,024 chapters. Alpha Kappa Alpha has chapters in the Bahamas, Bermuda, St. Croix, the Virgin Islands, Germany, England, South Korea, West Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates .
Under Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service led by International President Glenda Glover, the sorority continues to serve all mankind. The sorority's national initiatives include HBCU 4 Life: A Call to Action, Women’s Healthcare and Wellness, Building Your Economic Legacy, The Arts, and Global Impact. Some notable members of Alpha Kappa Alpha include Dr. Mae Jemison, Rosa Parks, Dr. Maya Angelou, Coretta Scott King, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Star Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Ava DuVernay, and Tika Sumpter.

Chapter History
On March 25, 2018, Upsilon Eta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the campus of Belmont University in Nashville, TN by 14 upstanding and exquisite women. With the guidance of the Kappa Lambda Omega graduate chapter, Upsilon Eta joined the many outstanding undergraduate chapters in the South Eastern Region.
Although a new chapter, Upsilon Eta has already shown their dedication to excellence and being a service to all mankind through their work within their community. Whether it is hosting a voter registration drive or volunteering with different organizations for community service, the ladies of Upsilon Eta aim to set an example for both their campus community and the Nashville area.
